The Executive Office of the Sudanese Community discusses arrangements for the Independence celebration and the adoption of the constitution

The Executive Office of the Sudanese Community held its regular in-person meeting at brother Mahmoud's restaurant, with a large number of members taking part, to discuss several organizational matters — above all preparations for the Independence Day celebration and the adoption of the constitution, as well as speeding up arrangements to rent a community house.

Meeting highlights

The Secretary General opened the meeting by presenting the agenda and outlining the main items for discussion.

Community President Mr. Abdulbari stressed the importance of starting preparations for the celebration early, emphasizing the need to coordinate efforts and share responsibilities among the offices to deliver a program worthy of the occasion.

Vice President Eng. Hajj Jaber stressed the need to form a dedicated committee to organize the celebration — preparing the program, coordinating tasks and following up on the practical arrangements — so that responsibilities are clear and the work runs smoothly.

Vice President Osman Alnoman stressed the importance of completing the celebration arrangements quickly, and of settling the rental of a community house as soon as possible as an important step toward a venue that brings the community together and supports its future activities and programs.

Members then held an open discussion on the vision for the celebration program and how to carry it out, as part of a shift from consultation to organized work — setting the priorities, tasks and timelines needed to deliver the upcoming milestones.

Outcomes and next steps

  1. Complete the formation of the celebration committee.
  2. Define the responsibilities of the offices and committees involved.
  3. Draw up a clear celebration program covering the organizational and practical arrangements.
  4. Follow up in parallel on renting the community house.
  5. Announce the details of the celebration program next week, once consultations and arrangements are complete.

The meeting reflected a drive to strengthen institutional work within the community and to empower the Executive Office to turn decisions into practical steps, helping national occasions succeed and developing the community's organizational structure in the period ahead.

Meeting outcomes

First: Independence Day celebration

Every year we celebrate the independence of our beloved Sudan and showcase our cultural and historical heritage to connect our children with our legacy and our fine customs and traditions. In this spirit, the Independence Day celebration will be held.

Second: The higher celebration committee

A higher committee for the celebration was elected, made up of three officers:

  • Mr. Haidar Idris — Chair
  • Ms. Ibtisam Mohamed — Vice-Chair
  • Ms. Asmahan Abakar — Rapporteur

It is a fully independent committee working according to the following guidelines:

  1. Forming sub-committees from the General Assembly and from anyone outside it whom it sees fit.
  2. Producing a national Sudanese day that embraces the full range of our Sudanese diversity.
  3. Funding the celebration committee through members' donations, with the help of the Treasurer, Saied, and Mr. Abdellatif.
  4. Sending invitations and liaising with external parties.
Third: The land plot

There was extensive discussion about the land plot, and a considerable number of Executive Office members asked questions about it. Ms. Amna of the External Relations Office gave a full explanation that cleared up the confusion and uncertainty: the community is entitled to dispose of the land once the necessary procedures are complete. The President affirmed that the External Relations Office's existing plans and programmes will continue as planned.

Fourth: Any other business
  1. Renting a community centre.
  2. The Executive Office will reach out to other communities to coordinate and strengthen cooperation.
  3. The External Relations Office drew the Executive Office's attention to the need for external representation.
  4. The Treasurer asked for another person to be added to the Finance Office to help.
  5. The meeting affirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation and brotherhood and supporting one another in leading the community, so that it stands alongside other communities.
